Voyce - Whakarongo Mai

VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai launched April 1st 2017 as an independent youth connection and advocacy service.

VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai was created to connect children and young people in care, advocate for the needs of these young people, promote a positive care identity, build leadership in young people in care and create a community of care around each child to equip them for their future.

As part of their journey to launch, Curative was initially brought on board in partnership with website developers Rabid Tech to help better understand needs for the VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai website. Curative used a co-design approach and ran workshops with 14 - 17 year olds in care, which revealed core needs for the website and the hopes for VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai to help other young people in the care community.

Working  together with some amazing young people and so many passionate advocates, we were able to create an engaging design, understand how best to connect with young people in care, develop messaging and a brand identity that resonates, and a powerful voice for VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai that captures their strength, courage, vibrancy and diversity. The brand identity was then brought to life with a bunch of printed collateral, including things like t-shirts, notepads, greeting cards, bookmarks, pull-up banners, tear-drop banners, games, caps and more, as well as digital design for the website and social media. We will never forget the sea of young people wearing the VOYCE-Whakarongo Mai t-shirts at the launch - we had all the feels.

Using the co-design process helped us build trust and ownership for a group of young people who didn’t often feel heard or that they had influence. The partnership between Curative and VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai was a perfect synergy in values; to listen to young people in care, amplify their voices and create something together that they could see themselves in.
